Cabbagetown is a neighborhood located in downtown Toronto. It is located at the intersection of Parliament Street and Carlton Street. It has a rich cultural and historical value, as it is the largest continuous area of Victorian homes in all of North America in fact. The name of the area, Cabbagetown, comes from the Irish immigrants who immigrated to Canada in the 1840s who were quite poor and could only afford to grow cabbage in their front yards. Although there is a very living culture in the Cabbagetown area as there are many gourmet shops, upscale boutiques and seasonal festivals. There is also a lovely Cabbagetown tour of the local homes, and another Cabbagetown walking tour in which you will see all of the great landmarks in the area, including the attractive nineteenth century houses, two historical cemeteries and many other lovely buildings to visit.
